'Boss Level' is an action packed film Starring Frank Grillo as retired special forces solider who gets stuck in a time loop where he gets killed everyday, which Co-Stars Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts, and Michelle Yeoh. The film was made on a $45 million dollar budget and raked in roughly $350,000 at the box office before making its debut on Hulu March 5th in the United States.

The film was very tough to watch through one sitting as it's very repetitive due to the nature of the time loop that Grillo's character finds himself stuck in. He wakes up in the morning and stops a man who's attempting to kill him while asleep and this scene in the film seems to replay every 2 minutes with the only thing differing thing between each scene is the voice over from Grillo explaining his character's thoughts. Grillo's voice over telling the audience his thoughts is the only thing moving the story forward as the world Grilo lives in stays the same throughout the entire film.

The plot itself doesn't make much sense and doesn't give the satisfaction you hope to have by the end of the film as the film never shows Grillo's character escaping the time loop, getting back with his ex-wife, and repairing his relationship with his son. From what I understand. the plot involves Naomi's character placing Grillo's character in a time loop in order to save her as her boss (Played by Mel Gibson) ends up killing her. It doesn't make sense to me because Naomi is explaining to Grillo in the beginning of the film that she is accepting applications for security to protect her and in that moment she could have left with Grillo? But she doesn't and she continues to work on some experiment and sets off a time loop, pissing her boss off and so he has her killed at the beginning of each day in the loop.

It takes Grillo's character nearly whole film to figure out that he can save his wife which I struggle to still figure out why, you'd think if the character knew his wife his dead that maybe he would spend each time loop trying to find her and possibly save her. But he doesn't think about that until randomly running into his neglected son at a video game arcade, which adds more confusion into the mix. Why wasn't Grillo's character spending each day in the loop trying to figure out what was going on with his wife and son? In the beginning he comes off as this character that wants to make things up and repair relationships that he damaged in the past but does nothing to support that in the first half of the film.

Without considering the plot and just watching it as an action junkie the film was fun with some exciting moments but it got very old fast because you pretty much watch every action sequence 5 times or more in a row because Grillo's character dies in nearly every stunt he tries until he succeeds. It kind of felt like the film was beating a dead horse in each action scene but again that's what happens in a time loop movie so you have to be accepting of that going into the film. I mean I may even jealous of Grillo's character, If I had the opportunity to stuck in a time loop at a casino, I'd take the chance to try everything until I hit the winning number at the slot machines.

Final thoughts, The film is a 5.9 out of 10 for me and that's solely based on the explosions, car chases, gun fights and fight choreography that played out to be the films overall strength. The story itself was tough to stay interested in as you continually watch the same thing over wondering when Grillo's character is going to escape his situation which he does figure out but it doesn't add up to why it all happened in the first place and you don't get to see the end result of him escaping the loop. I would only recommend this film to a friend that I know is an action fanatic like me and is into films like John Wick (Which has a simple but much better plot), if they're into that then they should enjoy 'Boss Level'.
