Young Guns was a film retelling the story of Billy The Kid during the Lincoln County War and follows him through the revenge for the murder of a wealthy ranch owner that hired Billy to protect his land from a rivalry. The film is said to be the most accurate telling of Billy The Kid and went on to become #1 at the box office bringing in $56 million when it was released in August of 1988. "Young Guns" was then followed up with a "Young Guns II" released in August of 1990 and didn't receive as high of a praise but made $3 million more at the box office than its predecessor with a total of $59 million.

According Emilio Estevez a "Young Guns III" is in the works but how much is it in the works? Well Emilio doesn't go into much detail about the project besides explaining that it's being worked on but doesn't provide anymore info like who else is interested rejoining the reboot or if there is even a studio that has shown a hint of interest. I would say I'm excited to hear that there is a reboot of a film that made it's debut over 30 years ago but over the past few years I have grown apart from the idea of rebooting anything because you know what a reboot means? It basically says we can't think of anything else new or we're unemployed so we should to go back to what worked at a later time.

Although there is chance it could come back a be a hit, those chances are slim to none and many reboots have provided the evidence for that statistic. The biggest example I can think of is rebooting "Dumb and Dumber" 20 years later in 2014 with "Dumb and Dumber To" which only lead to a sad disappointment of what once was. When it comes to doing sequels the best idea to is strike while the irons hot, and what I mean by that is keep making more films in the same franchise during the time period that it found it's success and don't wait till things have completely changed and the actors aged out of the rolls to bring it back because people have moved on.

I'd say Fast and Furious has maintained a successful franchise because the audience is watching the characters age through each film that comes out roughly every two years or so. We've seen the family in the Fast franchise grow and in a way the audience has grown with them so each time the actors return to the screen we're not shell shocked and off put by each character getting older. But I'd say after 30 years it's time to let the characters go unless you're completely recasting each character and adapting the story to fit the audience that exist today which I doubt will be the case as Emilio sounds like he wants to keep playing the same character when talking about film saying:

Yeah, it’s definitely in the works. I drive a lot and I spend a lot of time in the Midwest, and people will tell me, ‘We haven’t seen you on screen for a while. Come back! We’d love to see you in the movies again. We’d love to see you play Gordon Bombay. We’d love to see you play Billy the Kid.’ So, I feel like we’ve ticked one box, and we’re working on ticking the other one. The Kid is a fun character to play. There’s a lot of speculation about what happened that night, in 1881 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Did he die? Did he not? And so, there’s a lot of mythical, historical and actually some factual things that we can examine, if we’re serious about going back to that franchise, as well. (via ScreenRant)

Either way I'm interested to see the finished product if it does happen as it's quite the challenge most reboots have yet to succeed at.
